A few years ago I decided to learn French. I did not have a private teacher, so I started looking for one. I was given Luc’s number by a friend in common and while talking to him on the telephone, I immediately liked his accent (in English, by the way).

 

We started our French classes every week and I am proud to say that in just a few months I was able to understand and speak French. The best french teacher I have ever had-I truly mean that (and I've had a few)! The techniques Luc uses are as fantastic as they are easy and can be used everyday no matter where you are.

 

Luc encourages his students to contact him whenever they are experiencing difficulties with homework or a general going over the lesson, which I fully did via Skype, phone, and text. With Luc's lessons there is an emphasis on SPEAKING French as opposed to a lesson on just grammar (whilst in my experience with Luc grammar made more sense when I could fully speak a sentence without having to think about which words went where). Homework was given and was the right amount but Luc was more then happy to provide more if wanted.  Having Luc as your French teacher will be one the best decisions you'll make if wanting to speak fluent French.

After getting engaged to my French husband, I knew I needed to improve my French language skills in order to hold my own when in France and better converse with his friends and family. I had an AS level in French but it had been years since I studied and I'd forgotten a lot.

I tried going to a class in a central London language school but found it a waste of time as I was in middle in terms of ability and therefore didn't receive much support from the teacher.

I thought I might need some one-to-one sessions but was at a loss as to who to go with.

I came across Luc's profile on Gumtree and he claimed to use different methods than normal that would guarantee to improve your level very quickly. It sounded a bit too good to be true but after a chat on the phone to Luc I decided to give it a go for a few sessions and see how I got on.

From the first session I instantly knew I'd made the right choice. Luc came to meet me for my classes at my central London office which was highly convenient and he made me feel very relaxed and comfortable early on in the session. He described his methods so I understood the theory behind them. They were indeed different to how I'd tackled languages in the past but sure enough the skills I was learning made far more sense than ever before.

Luc's aim is to provide you with the skill-set you need regardless of your situation. He personalises all classes to what's important to you and helps ensure that you can see where and how you are improving. Because he takes the time to understand you as a student, he knows exactly how to position each class so it is challenging yet achievable - and he is great at seeking out your language weak spots and solving them! Every class is really enjoyable. He sets relevant and current homework and is always available to answer questions between sessions if required, which I found invaluable.

I continued with classes right up until the wedding and feel far more confident when conversing in French as a result. I even introduced Luke to my dad to learn some French ahead of the day and my parents-in-law to study English. Both took lessons via Skype and equally raved about how good they were, despite being a different generation and language levels.

In summary, I can't recommend Luc enough.

I would highly recommend Luc as a teacher to anyone who is looking to learn French.  There is a strong emphasis on speaking and listening, and Luc's methods help you to make the most of the grammar you already know, and subsequently learn, and put it into practice as soon as possible.  It certainly made a massive difference for me when I moved to France a few years ago - I was in a position to understand and interact with people as soon as I arrived.  

 

The classes are varied and interesting, with the added convenience of being able to do them wherever suits you best.  Luc is also really personable and easy to get on with, which makes the classes even more enjoyable.  For anyone weighing up a private teacher versus group classes at a language school, I have tried both and in terms of value for money, one hour with Luc was significantly more productive than the equivalent three hours or so at a school.

 

My French has improved massively,  I managed 23 out of 25 for my C1 speaking exam.
